Next Ride & Stride: 12th September 2020
This is an annual national sponsored event, organised locally by County Historic Churches Trusts and is able to go ahead this year despite the Covid-19 pandemic. Wiltshire Ride + Stride (or its predecessor the Great Cycle Ride) has been going since 1984 and has raised over £1.5 million for the county’s churches. 50% of the money raised goes to the participant’s chosen church and the other half to the County Historic Churches Trust.
All denominations are welcome. Visit as many churches as you like, planning your own route. Seek sponsorship from friends, relations and colleagues, so much per church visited or a lump sum.
Plan your route. You can get suggestions for cycle routes and church trails at
https://www.visitwiltshire.co.uk/things-to-do and http://www.wiltshirehistoricchurchestrust.org.uk/churches
You can of course visit churches in other counties.
In compliance with government guidance on exercise, access to churches and risk assessments, the event will be quite different this year:
- Riders may take part as individuals or in small groups of up to six participants from different households preserving social distancing
- Striders may walk individually or in small groups of up to six participants from different households (a maximum of thirty can walk together as an organised group as long as social distancing is preserved between each group of six in addition to social distancing between households)
Please note that churches may not be open this year and are unlikely to be able to offer toilet facilities or refreshments, so please plan your route accordingly. Please observe social distancing requirements at all times.
